In the last pondering we covered how a half filled balloon was still completely full… well today we look at some fun facts about balloons.

Below is a list of a few fun facts that TPP found while looking into this subject:

  • The definition of a balloon is a flexible bag that can be inflated with a gas
  • But you can also fill a balloon with water – great for water balloon fight in summer!
  • Balloons were thought to be invented in the late 18th century in France by Jacques and Joseph Montgolfier
  • Originally balloons were made out of animal bladders but now the are made mainly from rubber or plastic
  • Foil balloons are known as Mylar balloons and are made from nylon or rubber with a metallic coating
  • As long as a foil balloon is correctly sealed it can stay inflated for a long period of time
  • Balloons deflate because the gas inside the balloon will slowly seep through the tiny pores of the balloon
  • The word balloon is said to come from the Italian word “pallone” which means large ball
  • Some people use long thin balloons to make into features such as dogs, swords or giraffe’s by twisting in sections and bending
  • John Cassidy holds the records for the fastest time to create one balloon dog sculpture – he did it in 6.5 seconds
