On Your Toes

Today’s one comes from the random file – have you ever just looked at your toes and pondered how they work or what an amazing job they do?

These little guys are far more than things you trim, paint pretty colours and cover with socks when putting on shoes. They exist for many reasons:

  • Provide balance when you walk
  • Support your body weight
  • Help with your posture
  • Help push you forward when you walk
  • They even assist is increasing the length of your stride

Most people do not realise that when we walk, our toes stay on the ground around 75% of the time – with the big toe being the hardest worker of them all!

Your homework from today is to either:

  • Spend a few minutes sitting watching your toes while you wriggle them, stretch them and curl them up or
  • Go for a walk and watch the little guys doing their stuff

In both cases ponder on just how amazing this little, unsung hard working part of the body is. How your toes just gets on and do what is needed without you really ever noticing. Then say thank you to them.

Ponder away!
