The other day TPP was not running anywhere near 100% due to heavy cold – something which is a very rare occurrence!
You all know what it is like… going through copious numbers of hankies or tissues, coughing and spluttering, voice all raspy, headaches from a blocked nose, etc.
Because it was such a rare occurrence for TPP to have a cold, or to feel ill at all, it was a very frustrating time with many down “feeling sorry for self” and “can’t be bothered” thoughts. Those thoughts could have easily lead to just staying in bed for the day in the forlorn hope (or maybe misguided hope) that someone would come and wait hand and foot on TPP, rather than get up and get on with life.
Now you may say the best thing to do when not well is stay in bed to get better, which is true in many circumstances. But in this case, the cold was not thaaaaat bad and there were too many things to do, so TPP still got up. True all the jobs and chores were done at snails pace but they nevertheless they were still done and the feeling of accomplishment was far greater than the job itself warranted!
It was about this time that TPP realised any feelings or thoughts (good or bad, happy or sad) seem to be far more exaggerated when feeling unwell than they would normally be – very much a “Eureka!” moment.
So your homework today is to ponder on what you do when not feeling well… do you go down the “feeling sorry for yourself” rabbit hole, do you soldier on no matter what, make everyone around you feel miserable as well (after all if you are not well why should everyone around you be happy) or do you work hard to stay positive or happy… and are these more exaggerated because your are feeling unwell?
Ponder away!
