Mown lawn with shaped and manicured trees in a park

Lawns

Today’s pondering topic come up while TPP was out and about on a daily walk. Being a nice day there were a number of lawns being mown – ah, the lovely smell of a freshly mown lawn on a nice warm day!

This smell bought back many memories, including a saying that was heard many moons ago:

“When you die the lawns win”

Hmmm, an interesting concept – if you have ever owned a property with a lawn of any size you know that it needs mowing regularly to look presentable. The regular interval will depend on where your live, some places every week, others maybe every second or third week. But they will always need mowing as some stage!

Are you one of those people with a lawn who religiously mows their lawns every weekend, or the appropriate timeframe for your area, no matter what? Many times this is to the detriment of other things like time with the family or friends.

If you are, then ponder on the above saying – is it really that important that you mow the lawns and miss that ball game with your son or that special picnic lunch with your husband? The lawns with still be there when you get back but the missed ball game only happens at that one specific time!

If not, or you do not have a lawn to mow, then ponder on what equivalent activity you obsess about which is not important in the scheme of things and the obsession is to the detriment of others of actual importance.

Either way, your homework for the day is to ponder on the concept that the lawns will win when you die – so what important things are you missing by focusing on the lawns or equivalent.

Ponder away!
