Clean-Up Day - Campfire

Clean-Up Day

The other day was clean-up day around TPP’s little slice of paradise. As TPP lives in a rural area a fire is the best way to get rid of all of the old cardboard boxes that had piled up over time, along with some branches that have fallen down in the last wee while.

The chosen day for this clean-up had a crisp start to it with not a breath of wind anywhere – absolutely perfect for the job at hand.

TPP started the fire slowly, building it up bit by bit over time until everything was on the pile. All the time keeping a close eye on it to make sure it did not get out of hand. Once the peak had been reached TPP settled in to watch it burn down – close enough to appreciate the heat generated from the fire but far enough away not to get singed in any way, shape or form!

While watching the different stages of the fire made for a good time to ponder – the initial slow flames with lots of smoke, the full on roaring flames with the heat shimmers in the rising flames, the gentle burning of a fire dying down and finally the glowing embers.

Each stage essentially a different emotion but there were two underlying ponderings:

  1. How a fire takes a mess and quickly cleans it up and
  2. The relaxing, cathartic feeling from the flames

Your homework today is to sit back and picture yourself sitting watching a fire burn away – ponder on what comes to mind watching the flames and embers.

Ponder away!
